Parkside Art Gallery recently opened its doors to a fresh joint exhibition by South Cariboo artists Lianne Heales and Gina Myhill-Jones.

Into the Limelight, an annual show that dedicates itself to introducing new artists to the community, opened on Jan. 13 for a month-long run that ends on Feb. 13.

The pair brings together completely different interests and talents to create something unique in the Parkside main gallery.

Heales is relatively new to the art scene, with a lifelong interest and talent that was kept on hold until just a few years ago when responsibilities of a young family lightened a bit. She's focused on painting, and in the short time she's been at it, has developed a style she describes as slightly askew from reality, but consistent in each piece of her work.

Most of her images come from backroad adventures and trips through the Okanagan, but some of her favourites are scenes from the fall, when colours are intense.

Myhill-Jones is all over the map when it comes to defining a particular interest or style, and she blames it on compulsive creative disorder, where everything is exciting to her.

For the show, she's settled on glass work, sculpture and photo art on canvas, and the glass, particularly, goes beyond the normal boundaries.

She's cut, fused and cast it to create several large pieces as wall hangings and others as giant shimmering mobiles but she's also combined form with function to craft artfully designed plates and dishes.

This is the closest Myhill-Jones has been to having a solo show and likes the idea of sharing the limelight with another emerging artist whose work is so different from her own.

"I'm getting my stuff out there in the most unthreatening way possible and it's good. Neither of us has had a big solo gallery show before and we get to share a little bit of experience installing it."
