Jack Glatzer returns to 100 Mile House for a concert

By Dennis Tupman

World-renowned violinist Jack Glatzer will perform in concert at 100 Mile United Church Hall on April 21 at 2:00 PM.

Admission is by donation at the door, and part of the proceeds will go to local charity Loaves & Fishes Outreach.

Glatzer appeared last year at this time and thrilled a capacity audience in 100 Mile. He is travelling in North America again giving concerts, and is a friend of a local citizen in 100 Mile House.

The violinist says he enjoyed playing so much in 100 Mile last year, he offered to perform again, but with a different repertoire on the theme, Viva Italia.

He has just returned from visiting and performing in Italy and was so enthralled with the artistic life in that country he decided to learn new repertoire featuring that country.

Glatzer has performed all around the world, including the far reaches of Canada. He was the artist in residence at the University of Manitoba for some time and has become attached to Canada and Canadians.

According to the Oxford Mail in London, England: "Jack Glatzer is a world-class violinist with such a wealth of instrumental beauty at his disposal that one would be tempted to dwell upon his playing exclusively were it not for the fact that his musicianship is of the kind that directs the attention to the music itself."

We are fortunate to have this impromptu concert in 100 Mile House. Joining him in the concert will be some local artists for short selections. Pat Friesen, local pianist, says she was thrilled to be asked again to accompany Jack. When asked, she did not hesitate to quickly learn the accompaniment for “The Folia Variations” by Antonio Corelli.

Curtis Wolfe, local violinist, is also delighted to play a duet with Glatzer.

Further information on Glatzer can be found by Googling "Jack Glatzer." It is not often that an artist of this calibre comes to 100 Mile House.

“We are going to be treated once again to an outstanding musical treat,” says Anthony Lau one of the local sponsors.
