Here's what's happening this weekend in Penticton: Monster trucks in town

Scottish festival, action at the speedway and concert with Canadian legends headline the weekend

There's no shortage of events planned in Penticton for the first weekend of July.

Here's what's happening from July 4 to 6:

Penticton Scottish Festival (July 4 and 5)

The Penticton Scottish Festival returns to King's Park on Friday and Saturday.

Callum Beaumont, a piping judge from Scotland, will perform along with dancers from the Emily McDonald School of Highland Dance for a free concert at 6:30 p.m. on Friday to kick off festivities.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday with Highland games, pipe band and dance competitions, kids' zone, whisky school, and live entertainment.

A special ceremony led by the Summerland Pipes & Drums will commence at noon on Saturday.

Malicious Monster Truck Tour (July 4 and 5)

The Penticton Speedway is welcoming back the Malicious Monster Truck Tour this weekend.

Returning trucks Cali-Kid, Identity Theft, Rockstar will be featured on Friday and Saturday. There will also be a tough-truck competition and freestyle motocross stunt jump show.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. on both days. Show starts at 6 p.m.

Neighbourhood Block Party (July 5)

A family-friendly neighbourhood block party is coming to Penticton's Industrial Place for the first time.

The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and feature a kids' zone, local food trucks, live entertainment, prizes/giveaways and more.

Blue Rodeo in Penticton (July 5)

Canadian legends Blue Rodeo are bringing their 40th-anniversary tour to the South Okanagan Events Centre on Saturday night.

The band has been inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Blue Rodeo's Penticton concert will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at valleyfirsttix.evenue.net.

Okanagan Trestles Tour (July 6)

The Okanagan Trestles Tour, a 40 or 80-kilometre bike ride along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, returns for its 11th year on Sunday.

The ride starts at the Myra Canyon near Kelowna before making its way to Penticton Lakeside Resort.

While the 80-kilometre route starts near Kelowna, participants can also take part in a 40-kilometre ride which begins at Chute Lake.

Riders will be welcomed with live music, barbecue food, and more when they finish the ride at the Lakeside Resort.

Registration for the event closed on June 29.
