Movie musicals by an all-Canadian production are kicking off a province-wide tour in Vernon.
Sound the Alarm: Music/Theatre brings A Whole New World: A Concert of Movie Musicals' Greatest Songs to the Vernon Performing Arts Centre May 17.
Audiences will be immersed in the greatest hits from Disney classics to renowned Hollywood studios.
The production builds on the success of Music of the Night (MOTN) with a lighting design by Jason Hand, and a live band and a celebrated cast of professional singers.
“This is a show that will bring some much needed joy to audiences of all ages - perfect for every generation in the family.,” said Alan Corbishley, Sound The Arlarm founding artistic director. “With a live band, an eye-popping lighting show, and a captivating cast of exceptional singers, this concert production will immerse you in the music of all the greatest film musicals from Disney and Hollywood we have all grown-up loving!”
The first act is a tribute to timeless Disney melodies, featuring songs from Pinocchio, The Aristocrats, Mary Poppins, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, and more.
The second act showcases hits from iconic musicals such as The Sound of Music, Les Misérables, Grease, Mamma Mia, La La Land, Moulin Rouge, The Greatest Showman, Wicked, and others.
Members of the artistic team include returning talents from MOTN as well as exciting new artists.
Frederik Robert, musical director, once again collaborates with Evan Berndt on the music arrangements/designs, both of whom contributed to the musical success of MOTN.
The cast includes returning vocalists Aaron Hastelow, Adam Fisher, Tainui Kuru, and Georgia Bennett, joined by new artists, Ruth Acheampong, Kryslyne-Mai Ancheta, Kaleigh Gorka, and Aaron Durand. They are accompanied by returning band members Berndt, Arielle Ballance, Dean McKey, Carol Colpitts, David Usselman, and Cole Friesen.
The show debuts in Vernon with two performances Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
The tour then moves to Vancouver Island May 20 with shows at Duncan's Cowichan Performing Arts Centre May 20, Campbell River's Tidemark Theatre May 21, the Charlie White Theatre in Sidney May 22 and Victoria's McPherson Playhouse May 23.
The show heads to North Vancouver May 25 at the Centennial Theatre, Chilliwack's HUB International Theatre May 27, Coquitlam's Evergreen Theatre May 28, the Massey Theatre in New Westminster May 29, Richmond May 30 at the Gateway Theatre and the Abbotsford Arts Centre May 31.
It will be at the Kelowna Community Theatre June 1, Kamloops' Sagebrush Theatre June 3, the Frank Venables Theatre in Oliver June 4, Penticton's Cleland Theatre June 5, the Song Sparrow Hall in Salmon Arm June 6, Cranbrook's Key City Theatre June 9, the Kootenay River Theatre in Creston June 10, Grand Forks Secondary Auditorium June 11 and Trail's Charles Bailey Theatre June 12.
The team returns to the Island at Nanaimo's Port Theatre June 15 and back to the Lower Mainland at Maple Ridge's ACT Arts Centre June 18, Vancouver's Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre June 19 and finally the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey June 20.
