Drawing inspiration from different musical styles from Spain and across Latin-America, Café Olé can transport audiences through time and place.
The duo of vocalist Brittany Christina Bowman from Vancouver Island and guitarist Oscar Robles Diaz from Mexico, will play a concert at the Qualicum Beach Café on Jan. 11 and the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville on Jan. 18.
They met in 2007 in Mexico City and have been collaborating in music and in life ever since, according to the Café Olé website.
Singing in Spanish, they accompany their voices with nylon-string guitar and rhythmic palmas (handclaps). Their energy is infectious and fuelled by a deep respect and sense of gratitude for a rich variety of musical cultures, both traditional and contemporary.
Café Olé has performed at family gatherings, community celebrations and collaborations, award-winning wineries and arts and culture festivals, and for audiences in Canada, Mexico and Taiwan. They are currently based in the Comox Valley.
The concert at the MAC is part of a series, presented by the Oceanside Community Arts Council, called "Full Spectrum Folk", which also includes shows by The Cosmic American Music Revue (Feb. 8), David Vest (March 8) and the North Sound (April 12). Tickets are available through the MAC's online box office at https://shop.mcmillanartscentre.com/collections/box-office.
