B.C.'s oldest art club celebrates 80 years in Okanagan

Okanagan Artists of Canada Society started in 1945, and continues its mission of Artists Helping Artists

Happy belated anniversary to the province's oldest arts club.

The Okanagan Artists of Canada Society (OACS) marked its 80th year of operation in June with a special luncheon at the Vernon Golf and Country Club Wednesday, June 18.

The function welcomed society members, sponsors, artists, and special guests to a memorable celebration of eight decades of creativity, collaboration, and community.

The luncheon honoured the rich heritage of the OACS and its role in fostering a strong and supportive artistic community throughout the North Okanagan.

“This is truly an honour — to be part of something so special, with such a long and rich history,” said Kris Fuller, OACS president. “There is so much talent and love within this club, and it shines brighter than ever as we celebrate 80 years together.”

Fuller gave special thanks to the society's Social Committee — Danielle Beurgstrom and Cathy Schultz — for their hard work in making the afternoon a beautiful and seamless event.

Special luncheon guests included Rodney Goodchild from the Vernon Community Arts Centre, and Shawna Patenaude from the Arts Council of the North Okanagan, who joined in the festivities and shared in the club’s milestone.

"The Okanagan Artists Society is grateful to the many volunteers, sponsors, and friends — past and present — who have made this milestone possible," said Fuller. "Together, they have built a legacy that will continue to nurture and celebrate the arts in Vernon and across the North Okanagan for generations to come."

Since 1945, the Okanagan Artists of Canada Society has been dedicated to supporting and promoting local artists. Through exhibitions, mentorship, and community engagement, the society continues its mission of Artists Helping Artists while preserving and advancing the arts in B.C.
