This Mothers' Day weekend, come to the Alberni Athletic Hall to attend the Community Arts Council’s annual massive book sale! The sale begins Friday, May 9, from 6–8 p.m., and continues on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There will be hundreds of gently used books of all genres on display, as well as puzzles, CDs, and DVDs. This year we are excited to announce we are featuring a selection of local authors, including a very special live reading by Evelyn Thompson-George from her book, “The Defiant 511 of The Alberni Residential School.” There will also be local vendors and Ro’s Refreshments providing food and drink all day Saturday.
This year also marks the return of the Mount Klitsa Garden club’s annual Plant Sale (Saturday only), where the members of the club will be selling donated seeds, cuttings, and plants from their own personal gardens, as well as some exciting prizes to be won.
The plant sale will be cash only, and be sure to line up early because supplies will be limited! Be sure to visit the Community Arts Council’s table to say hi and purchase your very own limited edition “60th anniversary” sticker!
We are so very grateful to the many volunteers of the arts council who made this event possible, notably Claudia Romaniuk, Janice Konkin, Brianna Harvey and Anna Cole. Not to mention, the many other people who sorted, donated and delivered books to the Grove Gallery all year round. This event is a true testament to the community's power in fundraising and joining forces.
