Watoto Children's Choir is performing in 100 Mile House on March 1, bringing with it a show packed full of energy, uplifting music, vibrant dance routines and African culture.
It's part of a tour featuring their brand new show called, "Beautiful Africa: A New Generation," that opened in January in Vancouver and will take the 22 child performers across Canada to Ontario where their last performance will be held in July. They are expecting to perform seven to 10 concerts per week.
The children are orphans who come from Watoto Children's Villages in Uganda. Watoto is a holistic-care program, which provides a home, education, medical attention and nurturing for its young charges who have experienced the loss of one or both parents, to HIV/AIDS, other diseases, war and poverty.
Watoto Canada public relations officer Justine Ludwig says the concert serves an important purpose.
"It helps to promote Watoto and acknowledge the African orphan children in Uganda. It brings awareness to their situation."
She notes that people will enjoy the performance.
"The children are quite talented and they'll be showing off some incredible dance moves. They have a great choir."
The single performance in 100 Mile House takes place at 7 p.m. at the Bethel Pentecostal Community Church on Exeter Truck Route.
The concert is free of charge, but inside, people will be able to purchase jewelry, handbags and other items handcrafted by teenage mothers, single African women affected by HIV/AIDS and some women who are returnees from abduction by the Lord's Resistance Army.
People will also have the opportunity to purchase the choir's CDs and find information about Watoto sponsorship.
Since its inception in 1994, 55 Watoto Children's Choirs have toured the globe, providing their young members with an opportunity they would otherwise never get, while capturing the hearts of audiences everywhere.
