Gather the children and come down to enjoy the second annual Winter Carnival, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the 100 Mile Junior Secondary gym at 495 Cedar Ave. on Feb.12.
“Everything is free; the entertainment and the snacks, I hope that lots of families attend,” says Child Care Resource & Referral (CCRR) consultant Erica Henderson.
“Last year, we had over 500
people attend and 250 of those were children.”
This year, families are invited to enjoy story times and book giveaways, puppet shows by the 100 Mile House Library, Bouncy Castle; Bouncy Pirate Ship; face painting by Cheeky Lil’ Monkeys, live music by Dusty Sundman from the Youth Zone, an interactive activity by Canlan, and games and crafts tables will be set up.
All the books were donated by Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy, says Henderson.
“There will be two puppet shows put on by the library.
The 11:30 a.m. show is the Paper Bag Princess, by Robert Munsch, and after that, there will be a special puppet show, but it’s a secret,” says Henderson.
There will be a story igloo set up and children are invited to sit inside the igloo with special guest, Tia, who will read various stories.
The snacks, donated by Safeway, Save-On-Foods, and 108 Supermarket, will be put together and handed out by the South Cariboo Lionesses, says Henderson. Central GM will be giving away free balloons to the children, too.
“Everyone is so generous in their donations and time.”
Besides offering face painting, the Cheeky Lil’ Monkeys will be presenting a hula show at noon.
“Even 100 Mile House Fire-Rescue and RCMP will be there. The children are invited to
climb into and explore the fire trucks and police cars.”
This family focused event is sponsored by CCRR, Success by 6, and Make Children First.
