At the 100 Mile & District White Cane Club Open House on Feb. 5

The Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB) 100 Mile House & District Chapter White Cane Club’s 20th anniversary and open house on Feb. 5 was a great success.

The 100 Mile Community Hall was the site of steady activity that included displays of visual aids and assistive technology, as well as education on eye care and eyewear, Braille, blind sports, dog guide information and more.

Throughout lunch, music was offered by Laura Kelsey and accompaniment, Vern and Ben Johnson and Hilary Dosnell definitely enhanced the liveliness of

the venue.

The afternoon auction helped raise funds to offset the cost of the event, and as always, the community showed its continued support through this event.

The local White Cane Club officers and members thank the entire South Cariboo and all

those who attended, including emcee Harv Allen, the Highway 24 Interlakes Lions,

auctioneer Ron Graves, 100 Mile House Lions, South Cariboo Lioness Club, the 108 Lions and firefighters from Lac la Hache, 108 Mile and 100 Mile House fire departments.

Thank you also goes to local government representatives, including acting mayor Mel Torgerson, Cariboo Regional District chair Al Richmond and Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett, as well as School District 27 support services Dyane Willis who is the teacher for the visually impaired, and the CCB Cariboo White Cane Chapter from Williams Lake.

A special thanks to local radio and

the Free Press, which are so valuable in providing the

coverage that is needed for such an event and, of course, the stakeholders who made it such a worthwhile event.
