The Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB) 100 Mile House & District Chapter White Cane Club will resume its regular monthly meetings on Sept. 1 and resume meetings on the first Thursday of each month.
Meetings are held in the 100 Mile House United Church at 49 Dogwood Ave., starting at 11:30 a.m.
The White Cane Club is a social and recreational support group of vision impaired, blind and sighted affiliated members and has been present in 100 Mile House for 25 years.
Did you know blindness is the most feared of all disabilities, but it is important to know that vision loss is more manageable than ever through the use of alternate formats, assistive devices and a positive attitude, says CCB National First vice-president Lori Fry.
"Adaptive equipment for the blind has exploded along with the rest of technology in today’s modern world allowing many blind persons to maintain their independence.
"Unfortunately, vision loss and blindness will increase in our future due to the aging population."
The CCB and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) are two separate organizations working together towards the betterment of the visually impaired and blind population of Canada. Many clients of the CNIB are also members of the CCB and both organizations offer expertise and assistance to those experiencing vision loss.
