After 13 years of schooling, the Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School graduating class of 2025 is turning in its pencils and books for the last time this week.
The PSO grads are set to cross the stage at the South Cariboo Rec Centre on Friday, June 20, to receive their diplomas and end their primary schooling. The ceremony gets underway at 6:30 p.m., with friends and family of the grads invited to attend and watch. PSO principal Caitlin Currie said that this is a wonderful graduating class this year.
"The level of achievement that this group demonstrates, across many different areas of excellence, is exceptional this year, including athletics, the arts, and community service," Currie said. "Their plans for themselves and their futures are both exciting and rewarding to hear about."
Currie noted that as an educator, one of the most rewarding things for her and her staff is to see their students excel and move forward into adulthood. She said she especially enjoys it when students take time to share their gratitude for people who have supported them throughout their educational journey.
"It is a really special group and I know they have lots of thanks that they wish to share with their families, staff, and community," Currie said. "We look forward to celebrating with them on Friday."
Following the presentation of the grads' Dogwood Diploma on Friday, on Saturday, June 21, the annual dry grad parade is set to take place through 100 Mile House. As in previous years, grads will begin gathering behind the Save-On-Foods parking lot at 1:30 p.m. in their chosen mode of transportation before parading through town at 2 p.m.
Spectators are welcome to line the parade route from Birch Avenue down to Fifth Street and then down Cedar Avenue to cheer the students on as they make their way to Centennial Park. Following the parade, there will be a promenade on Centennial Park's stage and a photo shoot for grads and their families in the park until 5:45 p.m.
The grads will then get to enjoy their Hollywood Red Carpet-themed dry grad at PSO starting at 6 p.m. that will feature a dance, casino games, video games, pizza, a mocktail bar, a photo booth and dinner, in addition to other fun activities. The event was organized and paid for by members of the 2025 PSO Dry grad Committee, thanks in large part to the generous donations of the community.
