Donations welcome for ICC Christmas hamper program

There are many activities planned for November and December, writes Diana Forster in her monthly column
iccbingo
Some of the many volunteers at Interlakes Community Centre’s October 20 bingo are Back (L) Marsha Jerred, Irene Soares, Nancy Cavin, Barb Goddard, Les Szabo, Rod Boulay Front: Dolores Casellato (Bingo Chief) and Wendy Chase (Unstoppable Volunteer)

Interlakes Community Centre (ICC) ended their inaugural year of monthly Sunday bingo games with a Super G pot of $1,415 to be carried over to 2025. With a full house every time and over 20 volunteers generously donating their time, it proved a very successful venture, complete with delicious snacks to keep all the brains functioning well.

On finding out that Oct, 20’s bingo fell on Wendy Chase’s birthday, chair Dolores Casellato asked her to help out at the game. This request culminated in Irene Soares making doubly-delectable cakes and, along with other volunteers who were present, surprising and thanking Wendy, and wishing her a very happy birthday.

Remember that donations for Interlakes Christmas hampers are being accepted at the hall. ICC generally provides some 25 such gifts to our neighbours who could use a little help. E-transfer donations can be sent to interlakescommunity1@outlook.com with “hampers” in the memo. To receive a tax receipt, include your name and mailing address. To add someone to the recipient list, contact Susan Pizzuto at 778-908-3924, email susan.pizzuto@gmail.com;  or Joyce McGregor at Deka, 250-644-7540.

The free Christmas meal for “seniors and single community members of the Interlakes area only” is at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21. Doors open at 1 p.m. Call 250- 593-4869 by Dec. 13 to confirm your attendance or for more information.

ICC also needs volunteers to help with several private events: IVFD dinner on Dec 7; 4H Club awards luncheon, Dec 8; Interlakes Horse Club’s awards dinner, Dec 14; and their own December 21 Christmas luncheon. If you able to assist at any of these events, please e-mail Crista at interlakescommunity1@outlook.com

CV Wellness

Condolences

Deka residents were saddened at the Oct. 21 passing at home of Carrie Stoughton at the age of 65. Carrie had a printing business at the coast and a home at Deka Lake. She had earlier printed raffle tickets for Deka’s Ladies Auxiliary; and also printed the Bridge Lake Fair booklet from 2011 through 2022. For the last year, she had been captain in charge of Deka’s Citizens on Patrol and will be deeply missed by many friends.  A Celebration of Life is anticipated at a later date, possibly the spring.

Friends send sincere sympathy, thoughts and prayers to her partner, Glenn Hiltz

Mountain Spruce Community Park

Mountain Spruce notes that the park has been particularly beautiful recently with its amazing trails, viewing platform overlooking Heron Lake, picnic area and alluring flora and fauna. Winter is just as spectacular so take your snowshoes because they have a groomer keeping the trails accessible. Leashed dogs are welcome, but please use doggie bags. Clean-ups are conducted throughout the year but, if you see something amiss, please let them know at mtnspruce@gmail.com

Greetings

Belated birthday wishes are sent to Debbie Patterson and Robert Young; and a special belated golden wish to Glenn Hiltz. Birthday bubbly also goes to Andree Paddison, Jim Watson and Jim Wishart.
