The Rotary Club of Chemainus recently presented a cheque for $837.23 to Chemainus Secondary School’s Dry Grad Committee, April's community group benefiting from Rotary's bottle drop fundraising program.

The Rotary bottle drop runs every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the club’s recycling bunker across from Subway on Chemainus Road. On the third Saturday of each month, the club partners with a local group to help staff the site, sharing proceeds from the day’s returns.

The Dry Grad Committee, made up of parent volunteers and students, is working to ensure every member of the Class of 2025 can enjoy a memorable send-off, regardless of financial means. This year’s fundraising supports both Prom and Dry Grad events, helping keep the celebrations within reach for all grads.

The committee has been busy with a variety of fundraising initiatives since the fall, including bottle drives, concessions at public skating events, and the “Grand Slam Combo” sandwich fundraiser in partnership with Pastry Haus. An online campaign, the Grad Angel Fund, is also accepting donations to help cover costs.

This year’s Prom is set for June 7 at the Chemainus Theatre dining hall, with a Dry Grad celebration to follow on June 20.
