Blessing of the Animals event slated

Watson Barn at 108 Heritage Site will provide space, shelter

It has long been a tradition around the world for a ceremony of Blessing of the Animals to be held on or near the day of St. Francis of Assisi Oct. 4.

He is thought of as the patron saint of animals and the environment.

This year, the ceremony will be held at the 108 Heritage Site in the big Watson Barn on Oct. 1 at 11 a.m.

Everyone in the community of 100 Mile House and the surrounding area is welcome to attend and to bring their pets of any kind to be blessed.

It is hoped with the larger space that there will be quite a variety of animals. All animals must be under some form of restraint for the safety of all participants.

The event is sponsored by St. Timothy's Anglican Church, which has held pet blessings at the church in 100 Mile House in previous years. Unfortunately, the event had to be held in a limited space and was dependent on the weather although has been well attended.

This is an enjoyable community event and appreciated by the pet owners.
