4 YEARS AGO (2021): Thieves broke into two sheds at the Hillside Community Church, stealing equipment and fuel alongside clothing donated to the Loaves and Fishes thrift store. Thieves reportedly broke the clasps off both sheds, swiping a Husqvarna gas-powered weedeater, a yellow five-gallon jerry can full of gas and rifled through bags of clothing donated for the thrift store. Clint Lange, the pastor of the church, called the incident "disappointing" and added that the thefts had not been new, as the Loaves and Fishes storage shed had been hit three times in the past year.
8 YEARS AGO (2017): A deer fatally injured a dog in 108 Mile Ranch. Bert Rose, his wife and their 14-year-old dog Bella were having coffee at their new house in the 108 Mile Ranch when the deer came right at Bella and started stomping on the dog, after the dog gave the deer a couple of good yaps. Rose gave the deer several sturdy hits before the deer took off. Bella, however, was put down at the advice of the veterinarian. Colin Kravontka, the field conservation officer for 100 Mile House, said it was a doe protecting her fawn, even though the behaviour was considered unusual.
12 YEARS AGO (2013): Diane Farrell-Adam's work of Western and wildlife art was going to be on display at the Parkside Art Gallery until July 20. The show, called Painting the Cariboo, was a collection of the Bridge Lake rancher's visions, memories and experiences put to canvas. More than 25 detailed paintings and pastel drawings made up the display, and spilt out into the hallway. Farrell-Adams loved horses and had truly concentrated on drawing them as a child. By the time she posted them at the gallery, she had drawn them to near perfection.
16 YEARS AGO (2009): Two hundred and thirty longbow archers came out to the 27th annual North American Longbow Safari held at the Big Horn Bowhunters Archery Club between July 4 and 5. Thirty targets were made by the 55-member local club. Dori Dickerson, a founding member of the Big Horn Bowhunters Archery Club, was very pleased with how things were going. Participants from all over the world came to participate, including Saskatchewan, the United States, the Bahamas and Europe.
