45 YEARS AGO (1978): The local government liquor store ran out of beer as a result of a prolonged brewery strike. The last shipment had arrived several days earlier and they did not anticipate receiving more. It had been reported some Westerners were smuggling beer in. Steve Hamar at the Farrier Pub had enough draft beer at the time to last about two weeks and bottled beer for a month. The Red Coach Inn had enough stock on hand for six weeks. The Exeter Arms Hotel was expected to be out of draft beer by that weekend.

39 YEARS AGO (1984): A crew of six were busy in the wildlife marsh clearing brush and building bridges and trails. The work involved building a 300-metre trail along the southern boundary, removing an existing 60-metre boardwalk, thinning out willow trees, setting up benches and installing a submersible pump near the tourist information centre to provide aeration for the marsh. Works superintendent Gordie Mills said the work would allow residents and visitors to enjoy changes made by Ducks Unlimited including the construction of three nesting islands.

24 YEARS AGO (1999): A Canadian Diabetes Association support group was started in 100 Mile House. An information session was held on June 5 at Creekside Centre with 35 people in attendance. A car ticket raffle was going well said director Fred McKim. He said sales had “blown the socks” off sales in other branches bringing in over $4,000. He said credit went to a handful of volunteers and the generous people of 100 Mile House and local businesses. Future events included an education meeting that fall.

12 YEARS AGO (2011): Excel Rhythmic Gymnastics World Gymnaestrada team was headed to Switzerland. The group had been preparing for the event for several years. In 2010 14 members of the group travelled to Winnipeg and qualified to be part of the Canadian Team made of over 500 gymnasts from all over Canada. The group was led by Marisa Peter, a nationally accredited coach and long-term Bridge Lake resident. Members came from everywhere between Kamloops and Lac La Hache. The performance team had decreased to nine members. They would share the stage in Lausanne with more than 20,000 gymnasts.
