100 Mile House students organizing Canadian music concert

Two secondary school students in 100 Mile House are organizing a concert for Saturday, Nov. 23.

Claire Kreschuck and Joelle Kuyek are Grade 12 students at Peter Skene Odgen Secondary School (PSO) who decided to coordinate the concert for their Grade 12 capstone project.

Capstone projects are a project all Grade 12s have to complete before graduation, Claire said.

"The goal of the project is to pick a subject that you are passionate about, and that will benefit the community. Joelle and I both have been involved in the performing arts and music for many years now, so it was almost a no-brainer to incorporate that into our capstone project."

Claire and Joelle will be performing Canadian folk songs, and Claire said they are fortunate enough to have several other people performing different styles and genres of Canadian music.

"From Nov. 17 to 23 this year is Canadian Music Week, which is a great opportunity to bring light and recognition to Canadian artists and composers, and to give local performers a chance to learn and perform Canadian repertoire," Claire said. "We called it the Canadian music recital because we want to have Canadian music known and heard in our small community, and to present music by Canadians, for Canadians."

The concert will be held at the 100 Mile Evangelical Free Church from 10 a.m. to noon.

Admission is by donation and all proceeds will go toward the 100 Mile House Foodbank Society.
