The 100 Mile Hospital Auxiliary Garage Sale on June 3 was a success.
Auxiliary member Gail Maglis said they had a good turnout with lots of donations. The sale raised $397.76 and the donation jar, set out for those who might not see something they want, brought in an additional $145.25.
“(The money is) used to support the auxiliary’s commitments to personalize the care and comfort of patients and to fill the widening gap between available funding and necessary equipment purchases,” she said. “So it all goes back into the community.”
The organization will buy whatever item the hospital might ask them to buy for them.
This is the auxiliary’s last fundraising event until the fall. They are considering a raffle and attending more of the Christmas craft fairs. This will be decided at the next meeting.
The organization also provides a $500 continuing education bursary for students that plan to enter the education field.
“In 2021 we gave out two bursaries,” Maglis said.
She said there are currently around 20 active members but they are getting older.
“Some of them are plus 85. We are definitely looking for new members. A lot of the executive have been in their position for a long time,” she said. “Everybody is getting a little tired.
I enjoy the auxiliary because I know I am helping the community, helping get some of these medical items that may not be purchased right away. So I know I am doing some good. I am volunteering with a great group of ladies. They are very caring and very compassionate about the auxiliary.”
Anyone who is interested in joining the auxiliary is welcome to attend a meeting and learn more.
The auxiliary gift shop is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
