Emil passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his daughter Lydia (Michael), and granddaughters Sheena and Kirstin (Trevor). He was predeceased by his son Dan and grandson Joshua.
Emil was an avid gambler and could often be found in various casinos with his soulmate, Sharon. He was known for his leatherwork, a hobby he began as a young man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping in his motorhome.
He was born in Thorsby, Alberta, and began driving trucks hauling pipes after graduating from high school. He followed pipeline construction projects all over Alberta. During this time, he met and married Carol Lucas. They divorced 45 years later. In 1962, he moved the family to Vallican, starting a new chapter in his life.
There, Emil began working at Slocan Forest Products, where he eventually started a career in sawfiling. A move to 100 Mile House in 1972 further advanced his career when he became Head Sawfiler.
After a brief stint in Merritt, he returned to 100 Mile House to joinWeldwood in the construction of the new mill. He retired after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Many years into retirement, the cancer returned for the final time.
A celebration of life will be held at the Creekside Senior Center on May 31st at 11 a.m. Food and drinks will be provided.
Please come and share your best memories as we commemorate Emil's life and the warmth and joy he brought to all who knew him as a friend and family member. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
