Sooke Municipal Hall hosts a number of district events.

Sooke residents will have an opportunity to voice their views on taxes and the district's upcoming budget during an upcoming open house.

The open house will be held on April 2 and invites residents to review the draft budget, ask questions of district officials and staff, and share their thoughts on the financial plan prior to its adoption.

The district describes its budget engagement strategy as a "two-phase process built on a foundation of resident input." Phase one of this plan began in June 2024 – the time property taxes are paid – and continued through the summer.  The open house represents the second phase of this public engagement strategy.

"This approach enabled members of council and staff to connect with residents during evenings and weekends at local markets and parks. More than 1,200 residents participated in this first phase, helping shape the priorities reflected in the draft plan," said district communications manager Christina Moog.

The results of this engagement are outlined in the district's What We Heard 2025 budget report.

This year's budget deliberations saw Sooke council approve a new five-year financial plan bylaw that will see a municipal service tax increase of $236 per year for the average residential property. The increase will account for new investments in the transition to 24/7 policing and fire rescue services, advancing transportation networks, and a two per cent annual allocation to asset management.

The open house will take place Wednesday, April 2, from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. in council chambers at the municipal hall, 2205 Otter Point Rd.
