As Sooke continues to grow, the Sooke Region Museum looks to grow with it. But, it wants the public to have a say in those changes.
“The museum will be 50 in 2027, and as our communities grow, we want to continue to reflect the needs, values and stories of the region from East Sooke to Port Renfrew,” said Doni Eve, president of the Sooke Region Historical Society. In anticipation of this big milestone, the museum is inviting residents to share their ideas on how to keep the museum up to speed.
“We’ve received a great response to our survey launched in February to gather input on how the community feels about the museum,” said Eve. “We are now inviting members of the public to join a conversation to fully explore their ideas.”
Three community conversations on April 24 and 25 will explore what people find interesting about the museum, how it responds to the community's needs, and ideas for potential partnerships, programs or services.
The first two will take place on Thursday, April 24, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. The third and final session will be held on Friday, April 25, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Those who cannot attend can fill out an online survey, available until the end of August. Participants will be entered into a monthly prize draw until the survey’s conclusion.
“This process is about bringing people together to ensure the museum continues to serve as a meaningful resource and reflection of our community, and a vibrant hub of culture, education and connection for generations to come,” said Michelle Richard, executive director.
“The Sooke Region Museum is not just about preserving the past—it’s about shaping the future.”
The conversation sessions will be held at the Events Pavilion at the Sooke Region Museum, 2070 Phillips Rd., Sooke.
